According to a study by the United Nations, peace agreements are 35% more likely to last at least 15 years when women are involved in the negotiation process. Their participation helps to broaden the agenda, incorporate diverse perspectives, and promote sustainable peace.

Despite the proven benefits of women’s participation in peace processes, women make up only 13% of negotiators, 4% of mediators, and 3% of signatories in major peace processes worldwide, as reported by the Council on Foreign Relations.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) reports that women’s inclusion in peacebuilding processes can improve outcomes and enhance the effectiveness of interventions, leading to higher levels of social cohesion, reconciliation, and economic recovery.

These statistics emphasize the importance of increasing women’s meaningful participation in peacebuilding processes to foster sustainable and inclusive peace. They also highlight the need for further efforts to address the gender gap in decision-making roles within peace negotiations and agreements.

What are the strategies and solutions to overcome these challenges?

I have an amazing guest in this episode. An inspirational feminist that really does the work towards gender equality. I have had a chance to see first-hand what my guest does through her work and when I thought of the topic there was no doubt she was a perfect fit for this episode.
