We spend a significant portion of our lives at work, so it’s crucial for our workplace environment to be enriching and motivating, and for the company you work for to have a human rights approach. And although we consider this a bare minimum, sometimes even these basic standards are not fulfilled and employees are deprived for essential human rights in their working environment.

This negative trend gets even more noticeable in bigger companies and corporations.

So, for example in the UK, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) received thousands of complaints related to workplace discrimination and harassment each year. In the UK, a Stonewall study found that 35% of LGBTQ+ employees had hidden their identity at work because of discrimination.

Globally, the gender pay gap remains a significant issue. In many countries, women earn less than men for similar work, and these breaches of human rights only get more serious if we talk about more marginalized individuals.

But, in this episode of YouthSquad, as we usually do in our episodes, we will talk about a positive example, a change maker, and something that can serve as a role model when it comes to respecting human rights and praising diversity in the workplace.
