The immediate reason for the conversation is the Serbian edition of her book „The Passion for Ignorance“ (2020), published by the Faculty of Media and Communications in Belgrade (2024). In this podcast, we dig into the realm of psychoanalysis, a central area of interest for our guest. Firstly, we explore what anxiety is, how it functions, and how it is influenced by certain social and ideological constructs. Starting from the book „On Anxiety“, which Salecl published in 2004, her examination of this concept extends through her most famous book „The Tyranny of Choice“, which analyzes and criticizes contemporary consumerist society. In this segment, we delve into the so-called „ideology of choice“, which constrains us in the modern era rather than opening horizons and enabling genuine choice. Finally, we discuss the „passion for ignorance“, debating the function of ignoring and denying, as well as alienation and the various dimensions of influence that contemporary society has on our psychological state.
